The Language of Digital Marketing

Effective marketing is driven by the fact that people will not buy from people they don’t know, like, and trust. The same applies to digital marketing!

So how do you get them to discover you and fall in love with your products or services?

It all starts with the words.

Lets go over the main areas of Digital Marketing:

  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  • Branding and Positioning
  • Website Design
  • Promotion
  • Social Media and E-mail Marketing
  • Making the Offer

Does that feel way too technical already?

Let’s break it down into what we are really talking about

  • Search Engine Optimization is about speaking the same words as people who are looking for you and placing those words in a way that search engines will decide that your website is one of the most relevant places for information that searchers are looking for.

Think of this as a form of Matchmaker 101.

  • Branding and Positioning is simply the art of being memorable in the minds of your potential customers as the solution-provider they want. In other words, how do you attract people who want what you offer and get them motivated to buy?

Hint: It’s not about what you do; it’s “what’s in it for them.”

  • Website Design is about making a good first impression and reducing the barriers to communication with online visitors; in the first eight seconds you have to grab their attention.

Think of this as speed-dating for your website.

  • Social Media and E-mail Marketing describe tools used to continue the conversation after online visitors leave your website. At the end of the day, it’s still about building personal relationships.  You’re just using some new methods to make those connections.

Consider ways to keep talking with people who are interested, but don’t want to buy right now.

  • Making the Offer is about creating an environment where potential customers see you as the perfect solution and know what they need to do next to make that come to be.

Wait a minute…

Do you think website visitors should just know they can buy our stuff or hire us?

Sorry, it just doesn’t work that way.

You still need to ask for the sale.

But don’t stress.

Check out our other blogs on some non-sales-y ways to do that. You’ll discover how to help people take the next step toward completing the purchase.

But first, people have to find you!

If they can’t find you, they can’t get to know you. It makes sense.

Getting traffic to your site is how they come to know you.

Once they are on your website, you have the opportunity to build a relationship where they will come to like and trust you.

People buy from people they like and trust.

Increasing the amount of good-quality visitor traffic is the foundation for growing the number of potential customers for your products or services.

  • Zero Traffic = Zero Customers
  • Low traffic = very few potential customers.

Without traffic, a website is a waste of time and money, because it doesn’t grow your business.
